Which war is that? Vietnam? The US military and government has used a wide variety of cameras from many many brands.

i find that the sound effects were really good. maybe even better than SPR, which was already very good. can really feel the bullets flying and quite realistic arty sounds.

During that ERA it should either be a Nikon F or an F2. Bloody solid camera's that made Nikon a legend, along with the lenses.

Well.... They jerk off in the battle field while bullets are flying... Too bad they didn't give a hit about it in Black hawk down (read the book, its mentioned in there)

This guy throw away his rifle and pick up this Nikon camera after the bombing... no zoom lens....but this guy just press his shutter like no tomorrow, he took less than a second to aim and shoot, I wonder where are all the film from when he is in the middle of battle field err...many camera featured here...but i know none of them Last edited by Wai; 14th June 2002 at 01:17 AM. |

Top image:
The camera is an F2A Photomic. That is an F2 with the first series of Photomic heads the DP-11 fitted. Middle image: It looks like a trusty F2A, though the lens isn't a Nikkor from the look of it, more like a Tamron judging by the thin focusing ring and lettering in the front of the lens around the front element. Lower shot: Image is too small to really work out what's there but from the shape of one of them I'd hazard an educated guess at either a Bell and Howel 8mm movie cam or an old Ariflex unit perhaps as well as what looks like a Petri. One second to get a shot off is pretty average, most of us old timers who cut our teeth on these bodies don't find that difficult at all. I can do 2+ fps on a fully manual body when needed. ![]() Can you supply hi res shots of the mid and lower frames kamwai? If you can please let me know.

Nikon also produced custom versions of their bodies for specialist applications in the miltary, for example the US Navy. Nikon and Hassleblad are also the only two camera manufacturers to have provided bodies and lenses right back to the early Apollo missions for NASA and continue to do so to the current time.

Ian, you're good.
The resolution and quality is so low that I can't make out much. I was about to say it's a F or F2 Photomic for the 1st pic, and that's about all I can guess. ![]() Is that a TLR of some kind in the last pic? |

*disclaimer* i download them for personal preview and delete with in 24 hours dvi movie...that's why compression cannot make it...also, i was using only an AMD K6 with a lousy 2MB GFX card, so i cannot edit/capture any better shot. it was 4am already so i dun have the time to capture the pic properly anyway, there is a part of the movie which shows the soldier took the caemra and go around taking picture in battlefield, if i have my AMD XP running, i can rip that part out for u to see... Ian, you are really good, i only manage to see the word "nikon" on the camera, wonder how can u see the model number as well.. anyway, i know why in that part of the movie, he bring his camera up for half second, snap and put down the camera....this is to show his facial expression as he witness the war |

Actually he is using a Nikon F Photomic FTn not F2.
Nikon F Photomic FTn, introduced in 1968, discontinued in 1974. But the film event based in Nov 1965. If based on the actual year he should be using a Nikon F Photomic T introduced in 1965, discontinued in 1966. Nikon F Photomic FTn Nikon F Photomic T ![]() |

Yes it's definately a TLR down front right, though which manufacturer is hard to tell as the image is mighty blurred but I'd punt on it being mabye a Rollei of some sorts.
