Default IT Show: Canon printer prices reasonable?

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a Canon i550 printer to print the occasional photo.

the price (after trade-in) at the fair is $259. compared to the r.r.p of $319.

is it a good deal?

has anyone seen the price at SLS?

thanks,
urban

If you really want to print true photo prints... especially when you are printing pics of people (Skin Tones) ... get a printer with 6 ink tanks. (C, M, Y, K, PM, PC)

the hwz price is S$291. not far from the r.r.p.

6 ink tank is limited to the 820/830 and the 900 series.
have to re-think because these higher end printers are more than $450.

if only i visit te states soon, the printer prices here are much higher than in US.

If you do not need direct printing, the S820 is a very good print quality printer. Especially when you use Glossy Film paper.

Actually there are other higher end i-series available overseas that are U-Cheap-U-Good but looks like local Canon is trying to clear stocks first (820, 9000) before they bring them in.

Precisely, the price of a i850 in the US is the same as what they are charging for a i550. Talk about discriminatory prcing. Of course, i heard the reverse is true for Canon's inks.

Any one has any idea when i850 will be brought into Singapore?

I tried emailing Canon Singapore for an answer but of course no one replied me.

update: Canon S820 at $399 with either free nokia handphone or Canon scanner (price slashed this morning from the usual $489)

Epson 830 at $199. no trade in required for all

spoken to the ppl at canon booth and i show one of them a sample print from the epson 830 and he say it is indeed better than the prints from the S820

hmm, so in ur opinion, would the Epson 830 be a better choice or the Canon I550 ?

i have not seen the prints from the i550 yet
but if the S820 is a higher end model then can assume that the 830 is better than the i550?

canon indeed has got higher resolution than the epson's printer but the colours i see liao i still prefer epson more

its better to go down and have a look at thier test prints and decide from there

According to an epson rep I met, epson has better inks so the result even from their 4c printers look better than canon. I wouldn't know since I've only used plain paper on my S520.

The main issue for me was the separate ink tanks. Bad experience where I had to bin a perfectly good epson cart that had run out of a particular colour.

Default new printers coming to singapore

I have always heard good reviews for the i850 and of course the i950.

I believe 'now' they will come in after the show. How do I know?

If you visit www.canon.com.sg, you will notice that the individual web page for these printers have already been set in the 'mouseover' for the respective 'photo printer' button.

So guys, you may want to wait for the upcoming i850 if you still prefer individual ink tanks over the epson.
