Hi there,
I believe that tha japanese version of the 850IS is the 900IS. I've checked and the 900IS is made in Japan. Is it the same for the 900IS? The pricing here is about S$500 w/o any accessories, so i was thinking of getting one although it don't come with local warranty. Think its a good deal? |

just fyi, you are right about the 900 IS name..
US name: Canon PowerShot SD800 IS Digital ELPH European name: Canon Digital IXUS 850 IS Asian name: IXY Digital 900 IS your query is rather odd, you might want to rephrase about "is it the same for the 900IS" as for $500 w/o any accessories... what kind of accessories are you talking about? freebies? what about warranty, japanese wty i suppose? IIRC, the 850 IS is now selling ard $580 with wty + 2gb SD + some other free gift. |

Well, i know that the models are the same, but just wanted to see if its wirth it to buy it from here. Yes, what i mean is no additional SD cards etc. but SD cards are cheap now and only thing is the issue of warranty. Technically, there is warranty, just can't use it in Singapore. As for the price, i think its a bit less than 500 though. Th units here are made in japan. how about those in Singapore? (IXUS 850IS) Thanks! |

if you go to japan often, yes by all means, if anything happens, you can easily send it for service. if you are there just for a holiday, its up to you whether you want to do that or not the 'made in japan' part is technically quite misleading. yes you can have your product finished in japan but are you sure the parts are fully manufactured in japan? IIRC, all canon ixus (if not all canon pns) are labelled as 'made in japan' does made in china/thailand/taiwan/indonesia/etc actually affect the final product? i dont think so. its probably human's mindset of made in japan products being 'better' products than the ones made in other countries.. just for the record, a little of OT, the apple ipod nano is made in china. now what. ![]() just my 0.02 |
