Default Thin blue line across the middle of my iMac G5 19" screen

    Hi,

It is not annoying, but want to know if it can become worse:

today this thin blue line appeared on my 19" screen of my iMac G5, it runs near the middle from top to bottom (or from bottom to top).......

No more warranty left, it ran out last 23 march

If this can get worse, let me know.....also if you have some idea about the repair costs? (not sure if this can be repaired)

if it is there no matter what program you use or regardless of fullscreen viewing, then your imac is due for repair. I am guessing up to 1/4 the cost of the comp. my powerbook LCD was quoted at 600sgd.

If it's a Trinitron tube, the 2 lines are used to stabilize the shadow mask. If it's an LCD.... then.... hmmm.. dead addressing lines?

Yes. there were two lines if I remeber correctly, not in the middle, but somewhere dividing the screen into three equal portions......

Mine is a thin blue line running from top to bottom (through the files named 'fungusplate'):

If this line were red in colour, then it would match your name... Anyway, I think you'll need to send it in for repair or you would need to get a new one or live with the problem.. I think the addressing line may be gone or it may be just a problem with the connections internally.. Send it in and see what they say..

I have a similar problem with my iMac G5 which started just after my 1-year warranty ended. It started off with a blue line (abt 1 pixel width) somewhere down the middle of the screen. More lines started appearing during the following weeks, and now I'm stuck with 2 massive vertical white bands (in addition to these lines) on my screen Pretty sure it's as good as gone!

Apparantly, you're not the only one facing such a problem with your iMac - you can check the Mac forums via the Apple website. In fact, problem has been recognised by Apple and they have released some repair extension program to resolve this for certain batches of iMacs (you'd need to check if your iMac serial no. for this)

If it's just 1 line of dead pixels, might still be worth getting it repaired instead of getting a new computer.

As far as I know my 'Hong' doesn't mean red :-)

It seems the logic board was ordered from a company that supplied Apple 'accidentally' with a faulty one.....

Will check if mine is one of them, apparently Apple still refuses to accept it under repair eventough this seems to be a factory fault that they knew and should be recalled. Anyway, lets see what the local Apple center says.......had some initial problems when I bought this machine (they didn't supply it with the OS software CD's).

The salesman told me the initial buyer returned it after 1 day (!!) and exchanged it with a laptop .........

Took them 3-4 months to get me a copy of the OS X software, iitially they send me a copied version, but tht wasn't readable on the machine :-)

And to think this is Apple Center!! (at Funan)

I had my friend's iMac serviced at iShop when her iMac screen went dead.

LogicBoard problem and it was fixed for free.

You might want to check if the program is still available.
