Default Epson R270 Printer Ink Consumption

Hi,
I just bought the above mentioned printer two weeks ago. I used it to print my school report, mostly on B&W text printing.
Now the printer shows me the ink status is less than half tank, but I just print about less than 50 pages.
So, can anyone advice whether this is normal?

thanks..

The ink cartridges have rather small capacities first of all... secondly while you said you mainly printed B&W text, were there graphics? How much of the A4 sheet did your graphics take up? As the R200 series are budget photo printers, they tend to use up their inks rather quickly... I wonder if you might have printed quite a few full coverage full colour A4 prints? These will deplete your inks very quickly.

I own a R1800 and have printed about 15 A4 full colour photo prints plus about 20 4R full colour prints (all borderless)... most of the 8 ink cartridges are about 1/2 empty... only the Gloss tank and the Light Black tanks are almost full...

thanks for the advice. I had asked Epson techincal pple and they replied below. So far, i'm satisfy with this printer quality. thanks..

"The ink cartridges first installed in you printer will be partly used to charge the print head. Subsequent ink cartridges will last for their full rated life.

Please allow us to explain to you the reason why first set of ink during first initialization of the printer.

When you bought this printer, the print head mechanism is filled with shipping liquid. The purpose of the shipping liquid is to prolong print head life span during transportation or storage.

The reason is because ink from the cartridges will fill up the print head chamber during the process of ink charging. This process is required to flush out the shipping liquid so that the ink will fill the print head chamber for printer to get ready to print."

Not to mention that if the bleed lines are filled with ink in transportation, with the fluctuations in temperatures across the journey to S'pore, most of the ink would have dried up at the print head... and that would mean a DOA printer...
