If you're gonna be shooting mostly outdoors in good lighting, and you don't think you'll need the IS, then go for the 70-200 f/4L USM. This doesn't have IS, and retails for around 1.1k. If you're buying second hand on our B&S you may even find a piece for below a thousand dollars.
YMMV. Hope this helps. Cheers. |

try 70-300 f4-5.6 IS USM ... great lens at more then half of the f4L $$, it is less then 1 stop compare to f4L but give you up to 300mm, with IS too, check up on the len review at http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/len...56is/index.htm, has a copy & very happy with it, good lens for use but if looking for investment & prestige then go for L la!

70-200 f/4L USM is the same price as the 70-300 f/4-4.5 IS USM, of which both go for about $1160 or thereabouts. The 70-200 f/4L IS USM is $1860 now; that is not double the price of the earlier two lenses, is it? To the TS, you mentioned shooting wakeboarders. Is weather sealing of any importance? You may (read very likely will) get splashes of water on your lens and possibly camera body. |
