Recommendation for A4 Photo Printer

Kinda clueless on anything to do with printers, now trying to adpot a more digital workflow and make prints myself instead of relying on the lab to get it right.

As with cameras, there are probably a multitude of models out there that are suitable for me, would just like to get insight from those in the know and with experience so I can get a footing to start deciding on what I should get.

Budget should preferrably be below $300, and I do heap loads of B/W photography, so I don't know if there are any models out there that perform better for grayscale prints.

I still have yet to do my homework to figure out the specifications I need... just hope you guys can give a helping hand to start me off.
