You can't really compare it that way, the R1 uses a much larger sensor, and the "class" is entirely different. Actually the R1 is in a class of its own, hehe. If you're talking about image quality I think it would be hard to beat the R1 of course, but then zoom range wise if you're thinking about versatility.. Then the H series has the R1 beat, not by much. Price-wise also, of course.

Have you tried comparing the lenses of the R1 and the H9? The R1 is a DSLR in a prosumer body.

Comparing the huge 828 lens to the H9 may be a bit unfair, but actually a good comparison. It will show how the "new" H9 lens fares agains the "old but bigger" 828 lens, a.k.a. "The Purple Lady".

No. I'm sure it's a revised CCD judging from the shots I've seen so far. Plus, it has to support Nightshot.
