Not sure if you're gonna get good deals, coz when my Aussie relatives come over to S'pore, they go on shopping for cam + gear.. But you can try your luck down-under...

just my say..

So there's nothing to look forward to in Melbourne when I'm there?

You got to be careful and disappointed to find that the price is high. Cos the price of cameras and equipments over there is quite high. When I was in Melbourne last Sept, one Manfrotto 190B Tripod cost over A$250 (Given S$1 = A$1.2 like that that time). Some used items are much costly then new items when converted back to Sing dollars.

Prices in Australia are generally more expensive than here but you can find some used gems for reasonable prices occasionally. Camera shops in the Melbourne CBD are concentrated along Elizabeth St and Lonsdale Street area. I suggest Michael's along Elizabeth St or Camera Exchange at Lonsdale Street.

there are a rowof 4-5 camera shops selling both new/used stuff. cant remember the street name but you can miss it. right in the city. but the pricing is crazy. some used stuff are actually more expensive than new here in singapore. remember seeing a used 80-200/2.8 tokina ATX used selling at AUD1200!

but its a good place to sell! i sold my sb-24 there for AUD180 some years back when i can couldnt even get 180 sin at peninsula.
