Ken here!
Absolutely new member, both to this forum and to Pentax. I did do some shooting here and there with a Sony F828 for about a year or so, and I really loved the versatility of it (provided there was good light). I managed to pop off some really funky shots with the cam. However, as previously suggested, it wasn't of much good during low-light conditions. There were a couple of shots where I intentionally used its high-noise nature for certain shots that turned out reasonably good, but otherwise, yeah, I'm really loving my camera. I had intended to buy a K100D, y'know, for my level and all, but the kind advice of one of the members here strongly suggested that I buy the K10D instead. I thoroughly understood that it might be overkill and that there might be a steeper learning curve, but I decided to get it. (it was only about $200+ more than the K100D anyway. From my background in music, it's usually better to buy an expensive guitar now (provided you can afford it), and learn how to use it, rather than 2 crap guitars for the same price. I kinda embarrassed myself by happily chucking two photos in a single post onto the photo critique corner, so maybe I'll just be hiding on the Pentax Area for a while before I emerge from hiding again. well, enough of my rubbish, hello to all! |

K100D or K10D, whichever you choose, it'd be a much better (or worse if you don't know how to use it) choice than your Sony F828. If money isn't an issue, get the K10D. It's a better camera overall.
Good luck and hope you'd be a Pentaxian soon ![]() |

I understand that DSLRs are less discreet, but have image quality that is unrivaled, so yeah, changing my style of photography. Of course, I did try out some tricks that street DSLR photographers use. Some work, some don't. And well, I ALREADY AM A PENTAXIAN!!! YAY!!THE K10D IS SITTING ON MY TABLE RIGHT NOW, WITH A GOOD OLD SIGMA 17-70. Many thanks to all of you for your warm welcome. Sweeeeeeet camera.

Hi Ken
Welcome , fellow Pentaxian. You'll find the camera will not disappoint you. if you are comfortable with Pentax thereafter, get your self a pentax apo telescope and eyepieces too as they make really good ones! I gather from your use of "miles" you're from the US where its a shoppers' paradise for cool digital gadgets (except pdas!)? In anycase, if you have to edit your photos, i think you should keep the second one, its quite good...I have guppies too and can't seem to take very good shots because they swim around too fast and my aquarium is curved, making focussing difficult..heh heh |
