Default NIght/Indoor shooting with FZ50

Hi guys,

Recently I have some time i the evening/night period to do some shooting. I went to 2 places - Skate Park @ Orchard and a basketball court near my hse

As i fear my FZ50 flash will bilnd the skaters, I never use flash @ the Skate park. The problem I faced is that I cant get sharp pictures - i got those "ghost" figures like this:

So is there really a way to get sharper images without using a flash? ANd oh, we cant really have faster shutter speed due to the low-light enviroment...

Thanks...

Oic...

my primary aim is to get a sharp photo overall, kinda like a "freezed" action.

But its seems to be very hard to acheive in low night places. Cant have a faster shutter speed else low exposure...

its ok, but are you sure it is taken at night without strong spot light on the biker, no flash and also not a panning shot?

Kinda sure.

The place is considered kinda low light since its underground. No sights of wat u mentioned, strong spot light.

Should have no flash as the walls and floors are of marble texture, which i think will reflect the flash light. correct me if i am wrong

From the pic posted, you're using ISO 800, F11 and 0.625 exposure. This setting will never get u a sharp image on a fast moving object.

You can change the settings to to lowest F-stop, F2.8 or F3.5 and shutter speed of 1/125.
The end result will be a little underexposed and the moving object will be a bit double image. At least better than your current 'ghost image'.

Unfortunately the FZ series performs badly at ISO 400 and beyond. So expect a lot of noise as well.

I notice you are facing the light when you take the picture. You can try standing on the other side back facing the light, that would helps a little.

Thanks..

I did try to get a faster shutter speed, but even at f3.2 and 1/50, it is super underexposed, based on my LCD.....

Commercial photographs are largely touched up.

I am not able to take a look at the photo, but I suspect from the information gathered above, it could well be a digital merging of 2 photos.

Without getting the sportsmen into blind during the course of taking sport photography, additional light source other than the flash gun from the camera will certainly need to be applied.

There is no magic about taking photo. Without sufficient light source, even if you have a camera or lens that can goes down to aperture as low as 1.5, and ISO as high as 3200, I am afraid it is still not going to help much.
