Meet up with Montmelo for a short IR shoot at Kranji War memorial. Weather was hot but soon the dark clouds came looming.....haha! Pls enjoy. I need critiques on composition. Thanks!

As always, sharp pictures with nice blue skies
Here's comments about composition : #1 Watch the tree as it is cut off off on the left #6 is good. My fav #7 isn't so good in portrait. I think its better to see more of the subject in landscape. |

StanGetz, your shots are very very nice that is now prompting me to venture into this area but need some advices from you and fellow Csers.
I am a hobbyist but shoot about 2-4 times a year for the church and a times travels and my equipment are : Body - Nikon D2x, Fuji S2Pro, Lumix FZ50, FX7, Coolpix 880 Lens - Nikon Trinity, Tokina 12-24, Nikon AF 50mm 1.8, Nikon MF 55mm 2.8 macro, Hoya 135 2.8, Tamron 500mm f8 mirror, + other accessories What are the best combination to start with? DSLR or compact? Without heavy initial investment, which filter should I buy? Thanks in advance, Cheers |

thanks for your comments. Infact your equipment list is already very impressive. Lens wise: not a problem. What you need now is juz a IR filter. I would suggest a Hoya R72 IR filter in the 77mm thread, given the lenses u have. Should be $150~$200. Camera wise: Im nt sure sure of this as diff cameras have different sensitivity to IR. The cams u have are not found in the sticky http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=183234. Perhaps you could reach out to other IR users in this forum for an answer. u could join us for a outing to see how IR works. good day. and the stickys on the IR forum provides many useful informations. DO give it a read. -stan Last edited by StanGetz; 1st April 2007 at 12:22 PM. |

For #1, if i stood abit back to take the whole tree, the tombstones will get into the picture in the foreground which i was avoiding. For#7, the areas is too vast..i did not have a fisheye.. hence the orientation of the shots. lol! 谢谢 Ark. |

your post processing for color IR images is definitely impressive.
tack sharp and nice blues with regards to composition....i'd pick #6 only cause it's close up. the rest...i feel..too wide and no subject could get my attention. |

I had the same problem with bluish tint after channel swap and now have the habit of doing CWB whenever i go to a new location or if i swap lenses (with different 'protection' filters such as ND or UV filter)
Yep, i know what you mean about 'lens not wide enough'. Time to get your fisheye |

I correct undesirable bluish tints in editing. Don't know if this works for you, but here's my try with 2 of you pics in ridding the bluish tint from the monuments by layer masking the sky from the rest of the picture. I added a slight "S" curve to give more contrast to the blue sky and the clouds and a slight USM. There are still some Red and Yellow in your posted pics. You may want to do a further adjustments in H/S to remove them. ![]() ![]() Last edited by teerex; 1st April 2007 at 05:29 PM. |
