GND and HDR serves different purposes in different situation. a tripod, absence of undesired subject motion between takes and user expertise are required in HDR. GND serves in situation where lack of a tripod or presence of subject motion after a take makes HDR less favorable.

GND enable retention of details at controlled exposure. it can be simulated on ps but not to the same quality as details are not captured at optimal exposure and degrades with processing.

i asked around at a few shops and most don't seem to carry ND grad...

    what's the cost of one?

And also, it's not the screw in round type right? but the rectangular piece. How to affix to lens?

there's both, but the screw in type have the cut off in the centre and rotates around the centre, but does not move up and down, which is useless for horizon off the centre.

cheapest is chinese made tianya, abt $12, next cokin abt $20+, next hitech abt $80+, and singh ray abt $160+.

    lee's is of another size

To affix to lens, need a filter holder and a lens adaptor (to attach holder to lens).
