Default AEL button in E500/E330

I just realise that the AEL button in oly DSLRs is very useful. It allows you to map another type of exposure pattern on the AEL button. Currently, I am using the ESP for my metering but I map the AEL button to spot metering highlights. When I am shooting landscape with very nice clouds. I just click the AEL button at the brightest clouds to ensure optimal exposure. The shadows can be brought back from RAW.

no more figuring out how white is the clouds and what exposure to set so that they are captured just nicely, white but not burnt-out.

Really useful and easy to use. I have never seen this on other brands of DSLRs.

Just curious, has the E-500's spot metering system been very consistent? Tried with a variety of clouds before?

I think you and wind30 are referring to different functions.

What wind30 is talking about is different modes of spot-metering irregardless of ISO settings for highlight and shadow control as described in Page 78 of the E-500 manual here:
http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/...an_e500_en.pdf

I don't see this function in the section on spot metering mode on Page 59 of the KM 5D manual, but it does have a Zone Matching function which tries to tackle high-key and low-key scenes by changing (?) the ISO as described in Page 54 of the 5D manual here:

The same. The E330 functions similar to the E500 and very different from the E300. That is why I sold off the E300 and kept the E500 and E330. Easier to use both cams together.
