Only difference is that it's supposed to be an open system. While all players are welcome to join, I don't think any of the major presences are dropping their own mounts and joining them. Olympus has been making fine glasses but they really need to get a better sensor than those by Panasonic IMHO.

First of all, the question should have been posted in the 4/3 forum instead of in Olympus forum.

Tons of 4/3 system materials can be easily found by doing a google search.

To understand the differences between 4/3 system and the others, you need to understand many concepts like effects of Image Sensor sizes on Field of View (FOV), focal length on 35mm format equivalent, Depth of Field, Noise level at different ISO, Image circle, crop factor, type of lens mount (e.g. F mount for Nikon, A mount for Sony/KM, 4/3 for 4/3 system etc.), aspect ratio etc.

There are pros and cons in adopting a 4/3 system compared to others. At the end of the day, whether the pros outweighs the cons depends very much on which aspects are more important to the person using the camera.

Here are some useful links which I've bookmarked in the past :
The most prominent and fundamental difference is the sensor size and aspect ratio :
http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/oly-e/sensor-size.html

http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/oly-e/index.html (the index page of the above link, check those under "Technical" heading).

Official 4/3 system website : http://www.four-thirds.org/en/index.html

Olympus website listing the advantages of the 4/3 system : http://www.olympus-europa.com/consumer/dslr_7045.htm

I suggest you look at the thread that has an ongoing discussions about what people like and dislike about the 4/3 System. LOL. I don't think everyone will want to repeat something so recently discussed. Cheers.

Also, I would suggest that you pick up a book to help you understand the fundamental basics of photography, so that when you start seeing all the terminologies used in here, you will be less confused. This should help you get a good start into photography.

Welcome to the world of photography.
