Sent my lens in for repairs because it made an almost inaudible clicking sound when the focus ring was turned. It was promptly fixed and the problem hasn't recurred since. I was happy with the work done but the lens had a bit of glue residue on the barrel. This was easily fixed myself by gently rubbing it off with a finger.

I think there will be varying experiences on this. Most will get back lenses and be very happy with the service. While others will accuse the service center of simply letting the lens sit on the shelves for two days before returning it to the owner and claim that it has been serviced. Some have witnessed this sort of behaviour, but thankfully not from Canon's Service Center!

When I first got my copy of my old 85/1.8 in the past I thought it was quite soft, so I sent it to Canon for calibration with my camera body. It came back tons sharper, so naturally I was very happy. They helped me to remove some dust that was inside the lens as well, so that was a bonus.

Apparently, all lenses need to be sent in with the body you use most for calibration for optimum performance. No idea why, but it seems to work.

That's just what the Canon tech. told me. I haven't done so for all the other bodies I've used so far though, too lazy. Stuff still works fine though.

Well, calibration is only needed when the stuff you are using is always producing OOF shots or something. If it's working fine then don't touch. The theory: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

thanks for all the help! u guys have been helpful!

i'm going to canon tml. hope they dun screw my camera body. it's been working good with other lenses. i'm afraid they would just calibrate my body for that lens or maybe add more dust bunnies in my viewfinder and lenses.

They will not 'calibrate' your camera body, they simply calibrate the lens to work better with the body. Any other lens that works well with thebody will continue to work as well, nothing has changed

does the body or lens need to be in warranty for FOC calibration?

does ur lens have warranty? if yes, free.
if not, i think it's $80 if i'm not mistaken. just do a search here.

u might want to send in ur body like what haagen daz mentioned. but i didn't send in my body because i need to use. they told me they need 5 working days. earliest i can get back my camera is like next monday? which is very very very very long for me.
