Default E500 Hidden Menus

Hi Guys!

Since the last IT show, a lot of newbies are now happy owners of the E500. Just want to share this article I found regarding hidden menus on the E500 (some applicable also to E1).

Some informations you can access from these hidden menus:
1. shutter count
2. no. of times flash fired
3. pixels mapped counter (if you used the in-camera pixel mapping)
4. SSWF counter (also the no. of times camera was activated or turned on)
5. camera serial no.
and a lot more...

You can even try to use ISO50 and ISO3200 on your E500. This one I haven't tried. Too scared I'll mess up my camera settings. Proceed at your own risk!

Just follow this link:
E500 Hidden Menus

Cheers!

If you have updated to firmware newer then 1.0 then forget it. You can only get to the menu that gives the Shutter count, SSWF activation and etc. then service manual is now no longer accessible.

Hi, has it been confirmed that no 2. is the number of times flash fired? cos many websites list it as unknown...

That's wrong. Hidden menues work fine even after firmware update on E-500. It is to forget in E-330 only.

Yes it is. I confirmed it myself. Try using your flash and the counter increases.

I agree with Olyflyer. I have the latest firmware and the hidden menus are all there.

not fair...you guys still enjoy all the fun. My E-330 only goes to the hidden pages of the shutter count and etc.. the ISO50 and 30000 are no longer assessable

No point increasing the ISO for you. If the banding is proportional at ISO30000 you'd get about 20 times more unwanted lines in your images than at ISO1600. (Sorry Blu, I couldn't help myself.)

I wonder if the undocumented works on E-410 and 510 also. How about the banding in those models?

Sorry, I did not mean tu hurt you. I still wonder how it is with E-410 and 510.

One problem with the hidden stuff is that once you turn off the camera all is gone and it needs a lot of pushing to get back. I tested them but don't use any.

That was not suppose to be the case. Before I "upgrade" the firmware on mine, I played with it. The setting would stay until I change the ISO from the menu.

na..uncle Olyflyer...did you not see the hehehehe at the end of it?? Me certified a nut case anyway. Anyway, I could just dump the whole oly system.

edited....Just wondering out loud...increasing the ISO to 10,000 may be better...them banding lines would join up to be a plain monotone background!!!! hence no more banding lines!!!!

You may be right about not changing until ISO is changed. Anyway, just tested and due to the fact that it is complicated to find it I don't use it. I almost exclusively use ISO 100. With film I almost always used ISO 200 the last 15 years and that low ISO is good and has been good enogh for me. That's why I don't really care about noise at high ISO. Anyway, noise now, grain before. What's the difference? ISO 100 or 200 is always good.

I did read the "hehehehe", just wanted to make sure...

You may be right also about the banding. 20 time more may be equal to no more banding. You should try to ask someone who still have 1.0 firmware and banding at ISO1600. Actually it may be so that the bands have some relation to the way the sensor is built and actually caused by the photosite's pattern. If that is the case, higher ISO will not help. Maybe it is like painting, if you paint and let it dry between each stroke of the brush you will get banding.

I used to be able to access the hidden menu on the E-330 with some sequence of arrow button and OK button pushes (that I have now forgotten) but with body firmware update v1.1 and newer, it seems to have been disabled or the 'secret menu' button sequence changed.

Maybe you can try asking your friendly neighbourhood Oly service tech?

This is probably a feature that was disabled with all 1.1 firmware versions...no point in having the testing modes once the camera has been finalized. How many people want to go back to version 1.0...I know I don't, even for this feature.
