I'd be interested to hear this too. I was thinking about getting a Firestore FS-C for my Canon XH-A1, but it is quite ex, and then I heard you have to get a separate mounting kit which adds another hundred+ USD. So decided to wait a while and hope that prices come down. Don't know anything about the citi range.

The FS-C is HDV compatible (but also works with SD DV). I think it was designed for the XH-L1, and has a suitable mount for that, but for other cams you need to buy an additional mount and cable.

I haven't actually tried one yet. I suppose I'm looking to tap others' experience before deciding (like you I think?).

I was quoted these prices in January:

FS - C 60 GB : SGD$2,520.00

FS - C 100 GB : SGD$3,570.00

These are with 5% GST but not the A1 mounting kit. Could possible negotiate a bit lower, but I didn't try because the mounting kit cost put me off.

You know the FS-C is optimised for Canon? The generic models are something like FS-80, FS-100 etc.

So what price were you quoted?

not expandable, ie firmware cannot be upgraded later by yourself or the dealer. the 2.5inch HDD is mated to the firmware card.

Try the Sony's 60Gb. It's usabel for both SD & HD, anti-shock, 14 sec pre-recording memory, uses Sont FP batts, small & compact.

Please save your money and wait for the new Premiere Pro CS3.

It has OnLocation, which is a hard disk live-recording app, formerly know as DVRack from Serious Magic.

The cost of the firestore is enuf for you to buy a decent notebook.

If you have a non-Sony camera, this one is not a good choice, because you have to start and stop the recording by pressing 2 buttons on the hard disk. It's much better to get one that records automatically when you press the button on the camera.

It's a great match for the V1 though.

but for event recordings on-the-move, is this practical?

If you are recording on the move, how sure are you that the Firestore is capturing as well ? It is not as if it has a video-out for monitoring.

As for DVRack, you can see the clip on your notebook's video overlay while you are capturing it.

Not bashing the Firestore, if you feel it's worth the money by all means go for it.

what i mean to say is how do you use a notebook with DVRack to capture on the move like in a wedding or event. isn't DVRack meant for on-set production work (ie stationary)?

i don't use the firestore but from what i understand, it has a led which runs when its recording. you can preview your recorded clips by playing back through your lcd viewfinder to review your shots.

i agree that the firestore/citidisk is expensive and you can buy a notebook with the money but if DVRack can be set to coincide with the start/stop on the camera when filming than its the way to go.
