Hi. Just wanna find out if anyone here has bought/used Sony lenses. How's your experience with them so far?
I'm thinking of buying 50 mm f1.4 or the 100 mm f2.8 macro. Just seeking opinions before indulging on these lenses. Thanks.

I am sure they are fine lenses... they are not redesign by SONY, in terms of optical performance, but rather cosmetic look.
Used both and very happy with the result. Regards, Hart |

Ha ha doc, moving into prime already?
50mm is the cheapest f1.4 in the whole range. Light, compact and very sharp above f2.8. But local list price at S$699 is a bit hard to swallow. B&H has it for US$309.95. Second hand on CS B&S is around +/-S$300. ![]() As for 100mm Macro, never own one before. But Tamron 90mm is plenty sharp enough for me at half the price. ![]() |

The first shot was taken at 1/40 and f2 handheld, straight out of the camera. Not bad already lah.

The sony/minolta lenses are among the best lenses you can get. The Canon and Nikon lenses have a hard time matching the sonolta lenses, though the nikkors come close. What makes the sonolta lenses so great is the bokeh. Some of the bokeh I've seen from the C and N lenses is just awful! Plus, remember... You will NOT be able to find a C or N lens with anti-shake. Sony/Minolta and Pentax (and now Olympus) have it in the body, but Sony/Minolta have the better lenses. ![]() |

Just about 4 years ago before the Dynax 5D it was the opposite... I got great bargains on minolta 2nd hand lens... 70mm-210mm f4 beercan at around $180 or so in pristine condition and 50mm f1.8 at less than $100!

Minolta lens are not hardest to find or most expensive, Sony may be is expensive, for hard to find, try pentax and see. It's only depend on whether you willing to pay for it or not. Last edited by zcf; 26th March 2007 at 11:09 PM. |
