Increasing file size

Are there any ways to increase file size of a picture? I'm using a Jpeg. Does PS allows you to increase resolution or file size. I would like to submit a few photos through an online competition, but it requires a 1mb per photo.

Please advise.

Its already jpg and compressed so if you try to re-save it agian it will only degrade the quality further...

I think the 1mb is the maximum limit you can send in.
Haven't heard of anyone who refuses lower file size, all other factors (e.g. resolution) constant.

if the original is already jpg, you increase the file size by re-save it at the lowest compression will on increase the file size, but no gain on the quality, re-save a jpg will only degrade the image quality.

and if you increase the resolution by interpolate it, will not add any details in it, only prevent it from pixelation.

Usually there appears to be no limit on actual file size. But some competitions specify a minimum native resolution for all entries (eg. minimum 6 MP image, without interpolation). Do read carefully to determine if there is indeed a minimum file size required for the competition. And if so, whether the entry must be at it's native resolution (ie. not interpolated).

I see. Thanks for the clarification. I was thinking of interpolating to increase the file size though.

I'll check with them if there are any possibility of sending a lower file size image.

of course interpolating do increase the file size.

but don't you think is sound little like cheating? submit a low res pix to pass as high res pix?

Perhaps so. I think the main reason why the limit was imposed is to help the organizer weed out all the P&S entries. For 'cleaner' or less-detailed pictures, it's not difficult to get files under a MB. I suspect that mobile phone/ PDA camera photos will be the same.

That's unfortunate however. I've always disagreed with minimum picture resolution (and in this case, file size) limits. Even if a photo came from a P&S, doesn't it deserve a chance if it has obvious qualities?

To put an example in...the Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition...the picture must have a minimum of 6 MP native resolution. If someone has a stunning image taken with a 1D classic, or a Nikon D1X, it wouldn't even be accepted. So, isn't the photographer forced to upgrade if he/ she wants to participate? That's the wrong attitude. The megapixel counting has got to stop.
