Too dull, colours-wise. And no real point of focus, really. At least for me. It doesn't work.

What are you trying to convey, though?

What camera were you using, just for personal reference?

Well, for one you could use a Circular Polariser. And perhaps using the rule of thirds would help here.. You seem to have divided everything into half.. With the horizon as the divider. I'm not sure if you actually want to include those funny poles in the picture, very distracting for me.

As for silky smooth water, you probably need to use a smaller aperture and ND filter so that your exposure time can be longer.

Also, note that if you want more colours in the sky, sunrise/sunset is a good time. =)

2nd photo has more potential to me, but does not work as a paranomic crop I feel.

Perhaps you could try to go closer so that more details of the man could be seen. Care to share the shutter speed for 2nd shot? Seems like there's some handshake to me.

I guess it is just not a very good day for photography, the sky is a little bland from my view.

Something like this is what I have in mind;

But the image has too much JPG artefacts because of the repeated saving already.. Hehe.

Here's something I did back then with my measly A540 when I started to be interested in photography;

As you can see the sky has more colour, but this is also a rather boring shot (at least to me) with no other purpose other than to portray moodiness. Kept it for memory's sake.
