OT a bit.. I am still very amazed and amused that your signature 'tell' appears in all your postings, or at least all that I've noticed. Sorry.. I can't help but notice it... No offence intended..

You know, I've given up reporting your post, I'll just send PMs to different members of the Mod team with all the inflammatory posts you have made.

Is not hard to do so anyways, just do a search for all your recent posts.

    Grow up!

Right now around 8-11, since I doubt kit lenses are all that sharp at wide open..

f2.8 will be always be the most popular due to the fact that f2.8 zooms are so valued here. oh, and also the amount of wedding/event photographers who use those lenses.

Shoot Bikini gals... must use MARCO Lens for close up shots... maybe very close distance of 0.3m!!

Shoot old ladies, must put VR on them to reduce their legs shaking....

Tough question, I don't have a single f/stop that I favor the most, but my favourite range is

f/1.4-2 For low/available light shots (I use this a lot).

f/8-11 For sunny outdoors as this is the sweet spot of most lenses.

I don't usually use the smallest aperture unless shooting landscape or buildings. f/11 is enough to shoot big groups.

so would u rather use f2.8 with lower iso or use f4.0 with high iso? won't u use the biggest f-stop value in low light conditions?

I dun always take photos in low light conditions ONLY. Even then, I'd prefer to shoot at 1 stop down and bump the ISO up... gives better sharpness anytime...

Agree... f2.8 actually not always useful due to shallow DOF... esp close-up portrait, very easy to get 1 eye sharp the other blur.. safer bet will be f4

    It depends.
When I'm shooting portraits, I use f/2.8 and when I'm shooting landscapes, I go for f/8-f/11.

My favourite aperture depends on the lens & purpose that I want to achieve.

It all depends on what you, as the photographer is trying to achieve, then set the aperture to achieve it. e.g. on a 17-35mm f/2.8 you would be able to throw the BG into a nice soft blur, whereas on a 70-200mm, at f/4, you'll be able to achieve the same degree of blur.
