In his write-up of the E-510, wrotniak spoke about the flash hot-shoe of the E-510 being located further rear from the hinge of the on board flash, and there is a possibility that we can use the on-board flash in tandem with an external flash on the E-510. Comparing the photos of the E-500 and E-510, it looks like a possibility. If that is the case, then it's really good news for all!!

Hmm if so, that will be interesting; the dual flash combo offered by the E-300 and E-330 does produce excellent results.

does it offer better results? Haven't really experimented much on my E330 and FL50. Basically I bounce with the FL50 (omnibounce) and built-in flash. The built-in flash seems to be pretty weak and doesn't really help much.

I don't think that the E-510 can do that. Not a chance even though I would love that it can do that since I will consider getting one to pair up with my E-500 when it arrives.
Look at the top view of the E-510 carefully. The hinge of the built-in flash falls at the beginning of the flash hotshoe, just like on the E-410/400, which doesn't offer dual flash. There is no way the built-in flash can pop up without knocking on the base of an external flash, which is quite bulky at the base. |

I NEVER use the built-in flash, unless I'm forced to (if I don't have my FL-36 with cable & bracket, and I'm in a situation where I need a bit of fill-light; not to be used as the main light).

Yes, there is. If the flash would slide forward instead of just poping upward like on the E-500 than it would be possible to use a flash in the hot shoe also.
