Default help! something is wrong :(

i've just brought my cokin filter recently and finally had time to try it...

following the instructions written by max 2.8 Instruction on how to do Infrared Photography with your Digicam i exposed a shot and set it as custom white balance, followed by selecting custom white balance...

continuing to expose my 2nd shot to see the results, very dark, can hardly see anything.

exposed 3rd shot by overexposing 2 stops, a hint of orange came along.

exposed 4th shot at 0.8sec, and the results are as attached.

edited the channel mixer, the final result as attached. problem is, are my shots considered IR?

please advise fellow forumers.

The fastest way is to point at a patch of green grass in the sun (fill your frame with it) WITH the IR filter on and set it as CWB.

Is that what you're doing? You should not be getting such out-of-cam pics.. Really.

Its hard to tell because the stuff in your pix doesn't reflect infrared. We can't tell if you have done it right or not.

My guess, based on your pixes, is you got it right but just have to shoot the right subject.

ok i've tried exposing for 30seconds and this seems more like it! though it really looks like it was taken with a LOMO

and after auto leveling and mixing the channels...

Here's what I did,

1) Lower saturation a little bit
2) Auto Colour
3) Do standard channel swap

This one looks more normal to me, but best to let someone more experienced like Max say something first.. =D

[edit]

Here's the original one you showed, same steps:

Not necessarily.. Your colour cast looks a bit too strong for me, but maybe because I'm using Hoya R72, never tried the Cokin before.

In general, Autocolour is a great saver, I have no idea how it comes out nicely no matter how screwed up your WB is. For my Sony I get reddish pics because cannot handle the correct WB.

But anyways, for out of cam pics, I went to dig up some of the oldies' (pardon my use of this word, I'm talking about exp not age) threads to see if there's any out-of-cam examples;

These are a few threads with examples that I dug up,

A Canon 30D one;
http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=252485
Looks like not much sun in this one

A Canon 350D one;
http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=247635

Hope it helps.

Hi,

Do another CWB again. Cokin tend to be a tad orangy compared to R72. Your exposure is still a tad under. Shoot RAW and process it, the result is better.

Overall, I think your result is quite correct.

That, I'll leave to pandaong, since he's using 20D too... I've already forgotten already since I use modded camera.

Since you use Cokin 007, my guess is 30-40 secs at f4, ISO 400. But shoot in RAW, more control and better results too.
