i think it has "save for web" option, try that. But from 0.5MB down to 1KB means 500 times lower ---> pic has to be small and very very low quality. Even your avatar is 2.27KB. You want to create thumbnail right?

assuming photographic images, "save as jpeg..." change the quality setting.

currently, there is no technology for you to compress 0.5mb to less tham 1kb, or 512:1 compression ratio. getting 64:1 is already stretching the limit of JPEG.

you can try jpeg2000, though. slightly order of 2 better performance.

Err... sorri my mistake not reduce less then 1kb but less then 100kb.

Actually i m trying to send my pict to ICA to renew my passport online. n they need the file size to be not more then 60kb! 400 (Width) by 514 (Height) in pixels. manage to reduce the size.

Play around with "Image Size" and then "SAVE AS" quality.... from 10 drop till 5.

not sure about PS element, but it should have a drop down box for you to select save as jpg, gif or png etc...
