Question How to blend/overlay a pattern/frame/border onto a portrait using PS?

Hi. Recently I came across a portrait with a floral/tribal frame/border. The interesting thing is, the floral pattern seems to BLEND TOWARDS the centre of the portrait as well, almost as if it is a complete overlay on top of the photo with the centre portion cleared to show the person more.

Unfortunately I have lost the link to the photo, but if anybody knows what I mean, can teach me how to do it in PS? Or at least please provide some example links.

Thanks in advance.

assuming ur border is without background. use masking (with a feathered brush) to clear the center area, or u can juz erase but u'll lose the erased section... then maybe drop the opacity of the border layer.
