Default Help: Video clip unsupported by all the progs i tried so far!

hi guys. ive never done video editing before. but for some school thing orientation thing i now need to do some basic editing. i just need to cut ONE scene from a video clip that i already have and resize it so it can fit under 100mb (for uploading to youtube).

i got this video clip from someone.i did not shoot it. but the problem is, i cant seem to open it with any program!

I tried first Windows Movie Maker, and when i imported the clip i get this message:

C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXX\My Documents\FOCC 07\XXXXX\XXXXX.mpg could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from

what could be wrong?

i then tried using Jahshaka. the video managed to load and i managed to cut and resize it. but there was no Sound!! i tried encoding in AVI, MPEG but it didnt work

Then i tried my friends adobe premiere 6.0. when i tried to import the video, i got this messsage: Unable to open that file. file was encoded at an unsupported rate. The supported rates are 11khz, 22khz, 32khz, 44khz and 48khz

tomorrow im goign to try my friend's mac imovie HD.

but does anyone know why this problem arose?

i cant contact the videographer because i dont know him. this is for some orientation activity and the video was shot by a senior whom i dont know. thanks guys

Not sure what type of video this is, because the description is a bit vague. You could try downloading a converter program called "Super" which can handle many different formats, and see if it can convert it to something that Movie Maker can work with. (And it's free ).
