He did start the building of great wall......but the present great wall dun think any part is from Qin dynasty. Mostly if not all.......are from Ming Dynasty period.

His other major contributions I can think is 1. Unite the Roads (by making the axle of the carriage the same) 2. Unite the currency
Add 1 more, he united the Unit of weight measurement (very important at those times).

Chinese as a national identity started to be formed only during late Qing. You can refer this from articles by Liang Qi Chao if I remembered correctly.

Then ppl will ask then last time ppl identified with ? With the emperors, their dynasty, their ethnic group, their hometowns but never nation.

There were a few great height periods in Chinese history, one in Han Dynasty, then in the Tang Dynasty, then in the Ming Dynasty, and hopefully in the 21th Century again!
yup. the 3 great heights will be what astin has mentioned above. Han Dynasty reached it most glorious period under Han WuDi, Tang during Tang Xuan Zong (which also the start of downfall) and Ming under Yongle HuangDi.

Ppl tend to ignore or overlook the Ming Yongle period. However it is during this period that the world largest palace is built, the world largest place to pay respect to heaven is built, the world largest fleet set off to the world, one of the world largest book yongle da dian is complied......

    OT a bit.
For those interested in Chinese history, there is currently an exhibition at Singapore's Asian Civilizations Museum (the one near to Boat Quay), they are showing some artefacts which believed to be of a lost tribe from China 3000 years old; long before Qin Shi Huang's time and much more advance than Qin Shi Huang's technology.

    Exhibition details here:

btw the place of excavation is known as 三星堆遗迹 ... quite alot of discussions about 三星堆 culture in recent years, groundbreaking because it broke the long standing belief that Chinese origins came only from yellow river regions

Will Saddam be remembered as a person who is able to control Iraq? Or will he be remembered sorely as a tyrant?

    Humans are very cheap skate.
During the Warring States Period, everyone hated Qin. But today he is admired by the world for the legacy he left behind and also his mausoleum, his terracotta army.

I think by now, the Americans should know, Iraq can't do without Saddam.
Maybe one day, we will see him walking on the street of Baghdad again.
You all know lah, the American can cloned him.

Iraq, in my opinion, is becoming Vietnam number 2.

Although the American government failed to admit it is losing its grip, I see that further dead rates of US marines, and atrocities commit by them as well as fighting with the insurgents, will contribute to their failure in Iraq.

Agreed. If we advance forward from the six states in Qin time to Han WuDi times or later, the area occupied by the six states would be mostly inhabited by the Han Chinese in Han and later dynasty. That was more of my point of reference.

Thanks for your indept sharing. : )
