An interesting observation.
Back in the film days, most of us will swear by Fuji or Kodak, some may even go for Illford or Afga, even though they might be priced higher than other generics no name brands or the likes of Konica, Sakura, 3M and others.
Why, because we know, more or less, we are assured of quality. We willingly pay abit more or alot more.
Not that flash memory had replaced film, I wonder do we still feel the same, paying a bit more to assure realiability and performance.
In fact, what i'm most afraid of is that they just return me the same card with nothing done saying its "repaired". Because my problem is not easily reproducible. (says full after 30-100+ photos, cannot delete unless format)
But kudos to the guys at EG who say they'll 1-for-1 if new stocks come in first.
With that said, cards from either sandisk or Ridata can fail.
And I have tested the Ridata in Mt. Fuji during winter and it work flawlessly.
The Ridata 8Gb & 4Gb cards that I have and tested are ok. I just believe that Ridata
had some issues with quality with certain batches. Even big companies (CF card manufacturers or other electronic products) have issues with batches of their products (e.g. Lexar 2Gb).
And yes, I believe EG does a 1-1 exchange on faulty Ridata cards as others have feedbacked that they had theirs exchanged.
I'm not sure if it's a different batch, but my Ridata card is from Taiwan, and I've easily taken over 15k photos with it and it has got no problems. Filled it to max capacity more than 5 times too. My friend whom I've bought the card for, he doesn't have any issues with the card too.
I may be wrong, but IIRC there aren't many memory card manufacturers in the world as you would like to believe. Many of the brands are simply.. "repackaged"?
Yeah...later going to EG to try to exchange the cards...hopefully they will not give me much problem. Just want them to answer as to why my brand new card I can manage to "retrieve", using Image Rescue, the following:
1) Folder - Nero 7 Premium Reloaded 188.8.131.52 - Official PT-BR With Keygen
2) Folder content:
which does not belongs to be, of course....
Are they promoting piracy??
What gets me really work up is that they sell a refurbished card as brand new!
Went down to EG and wanted to get a replacement. They are out of stock for 4GB. Ask for alternatives, they said they were all out, dry. Then asked for other brands, they said they are also out. They say they only carry Ridata and Kingston now and the Kingston CF is the slower one... Sigh....
Thinking of asking for a full refund and take my $$ elsewhere...
Just to update.
Got a PM on Sunday from EG saying that they are willing to listen to my request.
Got a PM today and the new stock is coming in this weekend. Yeah!!
So, I guess, I will either:
1) 1-to-1 exchange
2) Top-up to 8GB
Share my exprience.
Bought a 4GB ridata card during alst month IT fair in suntec. Although i had read from several issues pertaining to this card from user here and elsewhere, but I thought I was lucky enough to get a good copy. I had used it for serveral birding outing with no issue till when I made a trip to Europe during the last two weeks.
Imagine all the precious photographs taken in Germany and Czech Republic ARE GONE...it was last tuesday when I was in Prague, Czech, the card failed on me, out of sudden, it shown INVILID CARD from my dslr screen....my heart sunk...luckily i had other backup card with me, my remaining trip to Barcelona and Manchester are not wasted...
Just went down to EG yesterday to get the new batch of 4GB cards to replace my spoilt one; good service, replaced no questions asked, had to wait 2 weeks though. The new packaging a bit more cheapo. so far so good;card works; cross fingers
just wondering, prev. was it lifetime warranty? now its 1 year shop warranty and 5 year manufacturer warranty.
damn, didnt see this thread prior to using Ridata for my main card
my foray into Ridata Mess.
