Default DVX 100B spoilt in 1 week

I need a little help here. i got a brand new dvx 100b, with no local warranty, and i was totally unaware of it. I did not know that only the dvx 102b had local warranty. Been a sony user all along and was unsure of panasonic regional sales practices.

Anyway, i used the camera for LESS THAN TWENTY MINUTES. the tape run was defenitely about ten minutes or so, and then when i attempted to transfer my footage, it just wouldnt work. Sent to panasonic and they say firewire board is gone, repair cost can go up to 1k.

Someone justify this please. I bought my camera for 1 week, used it for less den half an hour and now it just doesnt work fine. I have been liasing with the shop i bought from for about ONE MONTH already, with no conclusion, and thus am seeking advice here.

Thanks to all =)

Take it as a lesson then. Never buy without warranty. A $1k lesson no doubt.

Better to get it replaced then sit around and cry. At least you know that Panasonic Singapore will warranty that replaced part if it should happen again (which I doubt). All grey sets does have inharent problems it seems even with Sony's.

No its defenitely a PAL model in which im really particular about. When i went back to the shop, all the sales guy could say was " I TOLD YOU THERE WAS NO WARRANTY" and that he told me the warranty set costed 250 more and thus did not reccomend it to me (dvx 102). Honestly, i believe i would have enough common sense to get a warranty set on such an expensive investment.

After this happened, he told me he would check out MACK warranty for me and till now, it's over a month and i doubt i can purchase the external warranty anymore. I kind of spent all my savings on this camera and I just graduated from junior college, therefore repair right now is not an option.

The only mistake that i apparently made was my lack of research between dvx100 and dvx102. have been always a frequent visitor of american forums and have never really had mention of a dvx102.

Personally i am extremely careful with my equipment, ensuring that i don't wear out the tape head by using an external rewinder and ensuring that i do not mix web and dry lubrication tapes on the camera. And yes, i do ensure that the cam is off before engaging external connections, even when charging. In fact i planned not to use the dvx100 for extracting of clips but it was an emergency that day.

Some advice?

MAYBE the set you bought is aready a faulty set..

if I will u, even wo warrenty, after paying few $K for the cam and use it just for 20 mins, and found that it is faulty, i will go back to the shop immediately and demand for a change with another set.. if they refuse to change, i will consider to consult CASE for advise..

anyway where did you buy your cam from?

I shall not mention the shop's name before this matter is close. However, i sent the camera back to the store and they said that they sent it to the SERVICE CENTRE for me, whichever that was. And YES, i think it's already faulty. These are the few things im really pissed off about.

1. I was sold a DVX 100B, which according to people is that its a grey set.
2. Obviously, when i sent back the camera, i have only used it for twenty minutes.
3. I had to pursue the matter a couple of times before i had replies from the email.
4. The sales personnel told me to resolve this by purchasing the MACK Warranty. Now i am having this reply.

So as to minimize the repair cost of the camera, and the estimated repair cost of the camera is about SGD$850 – SGD$950.
Due to fire wire board need to be replace.

"With regards to the Mack Warranty: it might not be applicable for claim due to fire wire faulty.

I suggest you send the camera back to us, ASAP.
We will send the camera back to service center again and help you to negotiate for lower repair cost."

Mind you, this reply was sent to me after i PERSONALLY pursued the matter after i got no reply for more than a week.

It's been A MONTH SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAMERA. If i have to I will really bring this matter to CASE but honestly I would hope that this matter can be resolved peacefully. I don't mind paying for an external warranty at this point of time but SGD$850 – SGD$950 is just too ridiculous.

Are there other alternaatives anyone?? Appreciate all that have commented.

This link suggests otherwise:

http://www.expandore.com/product/DV%...t/AGDVX100.htm

although if you click on the "Order Now" button, what comes up is an AG-DVX100BE.

Wouldn't be surprised if this was the dealer, because they do sell products with no warranty and with optional Mack warranty.

dvx102b is definitely PAL model, as this is for asia market.
but dvx100b can be PAL or NTSC, as this is for europe and US market.

Sorry about your problems. Since the repair cost is so ex, and it is just the firewire that is affected, how about using an old miniDV cam as a capture deck? You can get a new Canon miniDV camcorder at Audio House for under S$500 so can probably find a second hand cam for even less. (And you get a backup cam as well.) Just a thought.
