i was experimenting that day with really shallow DOF. Most of the pics are taken at 2.8... i guess i overdid it a bit.... looking back now i agree that closing the aperture by one or two steps would have been better...
thanks for the comment

The grasshopper shot looks better in B&W.
The flowers look better in colour.
I kinda like the grasshopper shot but a pity it doesn't seem to be very sharp. Perhaps due to insufficient light (u mentioned u took the photos in the evening using natural light), you had to use a slower shutter speed and hence incurred some camera shake?

thanks Noob and WuffRuff for the comments
the grasshopper was taken a bit earlier and i had 1/400 but f5.6... the aperture is still not small enough resulting in a DOF of only a few mm. one think i noticed with these grasshopper is that their camouflage makes it really hard to focus. if you zoom into the photo you can acutally see all the small hairs and so on but the shell of the beast still does not look in focus....

Yeah, I agree, it's not sharp enough.

But the softness DOES work for the second shot of the pink flower though, if you ask me. =D

Hmm... now that u mention, I just realised that too. I had taken photos of grasshoppers too and somehow the shell part doesn't seem to be in focus too. I took many pics of it to try to get it sharp, but somehow, still not very sharp in my opinion.

Hmmm... does anyone have any comments or suggestions regarding shooting grasshoppers?
