Hi there,

I think it looks like flare or re-reflected light that bounced back from the internal (inner side) surface of your filter or may be from internal lens element surfaces.

Try removing filter and test with and without filter on a bright light source or try shooting at another direction.

The shot was taken with the tripod on the ledge out of my bedroom window.

Hi Francis,

Think you are right. I heed your advice and tried out with and without filter. #1 is with filter and #2 with out.

#1 (can still see some flare when filter is on)

#2 (greatly reduce when there is no filter)

Thanks for your advice. I'll remember to take out the filter when I take nite shots.

To achieve star effect, use smaller aperture (high f-stop value), e.g. f8.

If your exposure in the 25 sec or long...stop down your aperture.. the star will even be brighter..oh, use ISO 200 max... you will see the different.

Hi megaweb, the aperture seems to be auto compensate when i set the shutter speed (set the shutter speed to 15 sec and the aperture auto compensate at f13). I think its because I am using the aperture priority function. Perhaps I should try the manual function. Thank you for sharing with me.

Hi Dan, heed your advice on your Changi thread. I set the exposure at -1, shutter speed 15 sec and aperture auto compensate at f13. This time I brought down the ISO from 800 to 200. I will continue trying until I am at least satisfied with the star effect. Thanks for sharing once again.

Really learn somethings when I ask. Thanks for your patience. Appreciate it guys

use a long shutter speed and small aperture to best achieve the "star effect"
the effect is made when the light kinda comes in the lens and spreads as far as i know..

and i thot the thingys on ur second photo were UFOs.. ahahaha..
