I cant feel the sense of deep thought. Looks more like she is enjoying the sea breeze thats all.

The boat and the girl "happened" to be at opposite sides of the frame, hence competing for viewer's attention, lighting is flat and not interesting to viewer.

Perhaps frontal shoot would be better since she's ur gf... not a stranger.

One on top, and the other at the bottom, creating a somewhat balanced frame. Sometimes it's nice to isolate the main subject to draw attention to it.

Ah... I see... so if I crop the top portion of the photo that would make the photo slightly better because I draw attention to the main subject... correct?

Yup thats what I would have done too! In photography sometimes less is better. You can crop away the boat, or u can wait till the boat disappear.
