It is pretty obvious. C8080 is a high end prosumer whereas SP-350 is jsut an entry-level PnS, in term of the glass and CCD, C8080 is of higher quality. C8080 is made in Japan while SP-350 is made in China if I am not wrong. And lastly, just look at their prices!

The C8080 is a classic.
They don't make prosumers like that anymore. |

There is simply no comparison, even though both are prosumers.
It is all in the lens. Let's see, the C-8080WZ has a 28mm-140mm f2.4~3.5 while the SP-350 has a 38-114mm f2.8~4.9, it is clear that the former has a much wider and faster glass. In terms of the CCD sensor, it appears that both have similar performance even though the SP-350's is smaller. I have never used the SP-350 but having had a C-8080WZ, I can say that the image quality is very good for an all-in-one camera. JPEG quality is as good as it gets, comparable with DSLR at ISO 50-100. The camera is only let down by its sluggish and inaccurate AF in poor lighting. Having read comments about the SP-350, I doubt it is better in terms of AF performance and it appears to be unexpectedly more sluggish than the C-8080WZ, in spite of having more updated electronics. Image quality wise, the SP-350 seems to be very good as well, almost on par and ability to take RAW files is good to have even though it is very slow. They are very different beasts really but in the right hands, both will produce good results and that hotshoe is great to have. Get the C-8080WZ (only available used) if you want the wide angle and slightly faster lens but don't mind the bulk, and SP-350 if you like something almost pocketable and cheaper. |

Despite its older technology, the 8080 reached the very pinnacle of construction, handling and image quality...... its the prosumer digital camera against which all other prosumers are measured against ....
its one of the very rare cameras among the prosumers that has gained 'Classic' status....... very few will sell their 8080 ....... BUT its user interface needs a little getting used to ....... its not difficult, but not as idiot-proof as Canon's Last edited by ed9119; 15th March 2007 at 07:10 PM. |

You might wanna consider looking for a C-7070WZ as well, in case you can't get the C-8080WZ.
Based on what I have read, with the C-7070WZ, you get a more responsive camera (compared with the C-8080WZ) with more updated electronics, and the Sony 7MP CCD is a gem (say lower high ISO noise), as I found out with my C-70, which uses the same CCD and image processor in the camera. Also, the RAW write speed of the C-7070WZ is faster than the C-8080WZ as well, if that matters to you, not to mention that the LCD is fully articulated compared with the latter's, which can only flip up and down. Downside is the lens, which at F2.8~4.9, is slower but you get a much more compact package. ![]() When I sold my C-8080WZ, I did contemplate getting a C-7070WZ but ended up with a Sony R1 instead. ![]() |

Used both the 7070 and 350 in overeseas trip.
Fun. The feature I liked most? 7070 has filter pitch thread in front of the lens and it can use 40.5mm filter to protect the lens without a ridiculously clumsy and grotesque oversized tubular "adapter" that fits over the whole lens. Digicams fitted with these oversized "adapters" look so horrible. 350 can use AA bty and is small. If only both had image stabiliser, then would be ideal.
