Bought the D80 with the free gifts at the IT show. The 70-300G has a visible dust inside the lens. Went down to the show ground to change once, but lighting was no good. only to found the dust when I'm home.
Yesterday went down to AP SLS to change again. They gave me a new one, I still find dust inside. The sales personnel went in and choose a few lens. In the end the lens I get still have a tiny dust inside. He says all the lens of this series are like that. I'm unhappy with the quality of this lens and the service at AP. I thinking of sending it in to Nikon SC for a change. Although this is a cheap lens, and a tiny dust won't hurt, but I feel that Nikon still have some quality level to maintain. ![]() |

to the TS
Can i ask whether what is the big fuss about, your G lens is a vacuum cleaner, its just going to suck in more dust over time. Even 70-200G also have dust inside. If you can find one lens that is certifed dust free from nikon, I will buy it. Regards |

Come on man, a bit of dust won't affect the photo quality. While I can understand that you want a 100% flawless lens, sometimes it's not possible. This is not a weather sealed lens and no matter how well taken care of, dust WILL go in.
AP definitely not so free to randomly open up all the boxes and invite dust in, so don't you think it's more of an enviromental issue, rather than QC? These are NOT weather sealed lenses! |

I also bought the D80 kit at the IT show. Thankfully I don't think my 70 - 300 lens have any visible dust but the free 2GB card they gave was corrupted. Other than that I am very pleased with my purchase.

A lens without dust is not called a lens...its called a collectors item!
![]() Besides, my 17-50 f/2.8 already has a 2 "major" specks of dust on the rear element, as well as a few weeny ones on the front.. Didn't bother me too much since it didnt affect my images... |

At least the kit lens is dust free. If I been using this lens over time, I will not complain if dust goes in. But this is a brand new lens, I expect the quality to be better. |

If i were to sell this lens away. I don't think I can put this as mint, even though I have not used it before. The buyer will slash the price saying there's dust in the lens.

well, i personally don't believe that anything can be resold as in mint condition unless the original owner did not even open up the box, and the box is complete with manufacturer's seal. so what happens if that single speck of dust really went in while you were scrutinizing every inch of the lens? actually i think all distributors should stop the practice of allowing customers to scrutinize cameras and lenses before purchase. it's unfair to the next customer. in japan, all new sets are sealed, you can only test sets on display. and you can only open the box when the purchase is confirmed. if problems arises, the customer goes directly to the service centre.

I understand that dust will get into the lens over time. But let me ask a question, how many of you here would actually buy a new lens that has dust inside?
