Notice that he uses iso 100 most if not all of the time?

I am a 717 user too, but the noise level at iso 200 and above is really disappointing and restrictive I feel.

Isn't that the case with all prosumer digicams? I think the only cameras that allow you to use ISO 200 and beyond would be the DSLRs right?

My CP5700 does ISO400 at pretty acceptable noise levels.

Really? Could you post some samples at ISO 400 and the next lower ISO value? That would be ISO 200 right?

I think whether the noise levels are acceptable or not is very subjective. My tolerance for noise is very low indeed and I am no good in software like Neatimage

Yeah, my tolerance is pretty low too, that's why I always try to use the loswest ISO value on my F707 and S45. I've never used anything above ISO 100 before.

Since we're on the issue of noise, I just dug out my old thread - S602Z : ISO1600 Test Shots

For those interested.

Of course lah! But I don't think that'll be anytime soon...I'm still happy with my current cameras, and besides, I'm still studying! No $$$...

And just to keep this thread relavent, I must say the photos in that gallery are really nice, too bad Singapore or Melbourne don't really have the right seasons for such colourful shots...

After staying in Canada for a few months before, its actually really difficult to take bad landscapes and architecture shots cos the weather is always so good and the sky is always deep blue!

But of coz, credit to the photographer who showed us closer to the limits of our cameras. We really ought to buck up

Hey, the sky of our little island isn't too bad these few days ya?

Well if the subject is evenly lighted, ISO 400 is useable too. The light parts will wash out the noise. It's in the shadows that the noise will really show.

BTW, my post "Steps of Colour" was inadvertently taken in ISO400... forgot to reset it after shooting night events the day before Had to Neat Image it some.. but the results are not too bad ya?

Didnt he just use a slower shutter speed to blur the waterfall?

Umm...guess there was a fair amount of image processing involved since the picture is a combination of several other pcitures.

I have used both 707 and 717 and I too noticed 717 has a lot of noise at ISO 200 under certain condition ! The noise is most obvious on blurred background. Pictures from 707 at ISO 200 seem to cleaner than 717 !

I am interested to see how clean is 5700's image. Any chance of you posting a 1:1 400x400 pix crop from 5700 at ISO 100 & 200 ?
