![]() Sony started off its press event with the usual marketing blather about how many units the company's sold, but then got into the actual news when it announced additions to the Alpha line, which was launched in July of last year. The company announced two unamed DSLR cameras aimed at higher market segments, set to ship this calendar year. One of the new models (pictured above) will target the "high amateur" market segment and offer "higher performance than Aplha 100." It will have a new image sensor on board, but the company didn't offer any more detail than that. The highest-end flagship model will have an even higher-rez BIONZ image processor that was specifically developed for it. The company also announced it will add more lenses to the line, such as 24-70mm, 70-300mm, 28-250mm lenses. – Charlie White breaking news ![]()

Like a Dynax 9 design, apart from the pentaprism and no build in flash, otherwise it is just like Dynax 9 top plate. Wondering if they are going to drop the wireless flash because there is no build in flash for wireless unless the are doing something different.
Looks like I am staying with Sony after all... was close to buy in the second system of Fuji S5pro and various Nikon lenses. Could this well be the A-10? Regards, Hart |

The retro design looks quite unique in today's DSLR. Very utilitarian no nonsense kind of looks that reminds me of NAD or Rotel amps, quite unlike Sony's usual flashy designs.

Yup, it's a Dynax/Maxxum 9-base. Hopefully the internals match up and the final design more pleasing.
Hart, I was contemplating going to Fujifilm S5pro also. Now, will be staying for a while longer, I think... Any news on the new lenses? |

hmm.. the models are mockups, but still fun to peek at them...
based on the photos i've seen so far... AF/AF-A/C/S on the front left. rear right side there's three buttons on top, rear exposure dial, AEL button with switch around it (metering mode i think), AF/MF button, 4-way controller (can't see clearly if got the AF-point lock around it), SSS on/off, Fn button, one more C button... not sure if that strip on the grip is the grip sensor... most of the 7d-style controls are back, but there's only one knob on top... eh very strange leh, it's the PASM mode one, but moved to the other side... the VC for both new models looks the same. wonder if they will be interchangeable... from dpreview:
"The only detailed spec we could get out of Sony was on the three lenses they expect to launch firstl 24-70mm F2.8, 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 and a DT 18-250mm F3.5-6.3. We were told that all these lenses have been designed and developed by Sony (in other words they are not based on Konica Minolta designs)." hmmm, top lcd on the pro model... |

Wow, the prism hump is fugly alright.
But for the sake of KM adopters, I do hope they get a weatherproofed cam with some lenses to go along, sold at KM (not Sony) prices. |

Hmm...Great stuff up the sleeves..
18-250mm?....another tamron manufactured lens....Well..time to save up. I guess the large penta-prism is needed for Full frame. Last edited by sulhan; 9th March 2007 at 08:28 AM. |
