![]() Unlike other children who have the luxury of going to school, this boy lives underneath a highway because his parents cannot afford elementary education. Left to live around discarded broken school chairs, he clings on to his spoilt bag in hopes of stepping into a classroom someday. Photo taken in Jakarta, Indonesia. |

i don't take out my camera unless i absolutely have to. i was travelling with local people so i wouldn't be made too obvious a target. @ the end of the day it depends on u lar...if u want to risk ur life for a photo..then i guess its ur decision. gaffering up camera & bag brands helps alot too.

Yeah.... I believe his parent is really poor.
Not like in Singapore, called "poor" but still can effort to use handphone, 32 inch TV at home, stereo set and leaving in 2 room flat. We are really blessed here |

I like the composition of the kid and his surroundings. More interestingly, how did you approach the subject for the photo? I'm assuming it's posed.

thanks! i never pose my subjects as u can observe from my previous work. if not i wouldn't post this photo in streets & candids. he was just sitting there naturally & i took the opportunity to get close & capture the moment. the kids there are extremely different from singaporean children.

i think singaporeans are rich in assets but because their demands are ever so high they forget what they actually already own.
