Hello all. I'm sure this will be one many reports from the show floor.
I have been here since Friday for DIMA, and today for day one of PMA.
For those that have not attended, the show is "medium" in size -
filling the south hall of the Las Vegas convention center. It was my
first year, and I did expect it to be larger, though I was far from
    dissapointed.

BTW: I am posting this via Google since my normal access to newsgroups
is not possible on the road.

Being a Canon user, I was most interested in the 10D announcement.
Much has been printed about it already, so I won't rehash it. Just to
confirm, the price, according to Canon, is $1,499.

When pressed about "why no full frame solution?", the Canon reps towed
the company line. "We have one. It's 1Ds." I went up to four
different reps, asking each the same question. Each acted as if it was
the first time they heard it (everyone was asking it however) and
responded in a similar manner. If they have something in the works -
and I really, really believe they do - they are not talking at all.
    No winks, no nods, nothing.

The Canon engineers confirmed that the focus system on the 10D is the
SAME as the Elan7. Low light, focus and noise are much improved. ISO
3200. Basically it's the camera we all (most of us) wanted - sans the
    FF.

It will be shipping IN QUANTITY beginning on the 10th. Everyone in
the Canon booth confimed this, as did several distributors and
dealers. They do not want a repeat of the D60.

Wanna buy a used D60 cheap? Expect a flood on Ebay. I went there
planning on skipping this upgrade - now I'm not so sure. It is VERY
nice. I placed three units on backorder with dealers before I left
for the show - just in case.

assuming the 10D's AF is exactly the same as the EOS30/33, then the 550EX IR low light assist would not work with the top/bottom most AF sensor.

That's how it is with my 33, unless of course Canon was smart enuf to tweak that to work on the 10D.

hmmm then Canon will have to come out with a new professional speedlite that covers all 7 points.

They already have the 420EX which works with all 7 AF points on the EOS-30/33. However I have had absolutely no problem with my 550EX AF-assist.

    Full frame?
Oh, come on. Why full frame?

Seriously, they should make it so that its like say 1.25x. That way, we will have less problems with lens being soft on the edges.
