Fuel consumption varying by 2-3 km/L on the same car is normal. Your driving style and traffic condition will have a major impact on the fuel consumption.

My car has a trip computer that calculates FC. If I drive normally and do not meet any traffic jams. I can hit 14-15 km/L easily. If I drive even more conservatively, I can even get 16km/L. If I am struck in traffic and start revving my engine, it can go as low as 11-12 km/L.

This is particularly more pronounced in cars with VVT (I would say all cars utitilises VVT nowadays), especially the likes of VTEC of Honda. Variable valve timing allows the engine to run lean at low RPMs and can increase the fuel intake at higher RPMs when you rev the engine. Therefore, you can get very different FC values with 2 drivers of different driving styles.

maybe the newer batches are better.
The SD* batches, are pretty poor. Or maybe they are heavy footed.

got a friend driving the mits lancer glx SGF plate, getting about FC: 14 on average.
not too bad. previous car that she drove was the Jazz, about 12 or less...think maybe the 15" rims cause the low FC.
    too many shots...

Why bother over FC when our country is so small and full of traffic lights unless you drive everyday expressway only, other than that FC is meaningless.

    Why? Give you an example.

Avg Mileage of my car = 10km/l
Distance Clocked per month = 2500km or 250 litres
    at $1.70 per litre x 250 = $425.00

Imagine if it give me 13km/l on avg
Distance Clocked per month = 2500km or 192.31litres
    at $1.70 per litre x 192.31 = $326.92

    Savings per year ($425 - $327) x 12 = $1,176.00

I doubt the accuracy of trip computer, for me i will pump full tank everything (regardless of amount of fuel left) and reset the trip counter after each pump.

then take the distance before u reset and divide by the amount of fuel u pumped

and my FC only varies by less than +/- 1km/L

How abt toyota's Belta & Axio (both PI cars). The distributors and some members from another forum claim that they are VERY Fuel efficient cars clocking 17 & 19 km/l respectively!!!

I already taken that into consideration. My trip computer is consistantly -0.7~1.0km/L compared to the actual. But it gives me a very good idea of how the FC vary according to my driving style.

Yours is a large cc car? There will be more variation of some engine types compared to other.
