Hi all,

There's a new photography competition in town, organised by Canon and The New Paper.

Up for grabs - $10,000 of EOS gear (30D, 430EX flash, 3 prime lenses, Pro9000 printer for the top winner!) and an internship with TNP's Photo Desk.

See this page below for more details

Pity they had that. I was considering joining the competitition and let it run while I'm overseas pursuing a career.

Default CANON-THE NEW PAPER Young Photographer of the Year

Ever dreamt of being a photojournalist?

It is an exciting media career that blends both art and excitement in an unpredictable mix.

What is going to come before your lens tomorrow, nobody will know, and it’s your job to capture the image that will sear into people’s minds forever.

To be a good photographer in any field, you need to have good mentors and an apprenticeship that will really stretch your skills to the limit.

Such opportunities are rare in Singapore but that’s about to change, folks.

Canon and The New Paper is now looking for Singapore’s first Young Photographer Of The Year.

We’re offering $10,000 worth of Canon camera gear to four talented chaps.

The winner will get a full fledged dSLR system worth $5,000 (Canon EOS 30D body, 430EX flash, 3 pro-grade prime lenses – 24mm, 50mm, and 100mm macro and the new Pro9000 A3-sized photo printer).

He will also earn a coveted internship with The New Paper’s Photo Desk, and be guided personally by our award-winning veterans.

Other winners will also win Canon EOS 350D and 400D kits.

You don’t need to own professional gear to join.
• As long as you are able to show us three photographs covering the following themes – People/Portraits, Action/Sports and Scenery/Landscapes, we will be able to tell if you have the chops to make it in this line. Images can be taken with any film or digital camera but not those from camera phones.
• To prove their worth, finalists will have to undergo an intensive one-day shootout to decide who comes up on top.
• You do need to be aged 16 to 35 though, and the TNP internship must be served within one year of the competition end date, or forfeit a cash value of the prizes won.
• Contest entries should be taken within the past two years, properly captioned (description of subject, time and place taken), sized between 1 and 2MB, and emailed to tnpwin@sph.com.sg
• Include your name, email address, contact number and type of camera used for the entries.
• Deadline for entries is 29 Mar 2007.
• For more information, email TNP’s Ian Tan at tanyhi@sph.com.sg

it doesn't make sense... it's supposed to be a coveted chance to work with them.. but their terms and conditions make it more like forced labour. if the winner doesn't go for the internship muz pay back everything? crazy! sounds like TNP wanted some cheap labour from this..maybe they have a lack of photogs...

Actually it's $5,000 worth, not $10,000 as the TS said.

"Pro-grade prime lenses" are referring to 24mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.8 and 100mm f/2.8 Macro lenses. I don't think they're "pro-grade", leh, more like consumer-grade at best.
