$1005 is more like the price for the previous 105mm Micro-Nikkor.

For example I really like the small form factor of the D40 and the fact that it can only use AFS lenses is an acceptable compromise to me. However I'm spoiled by fast lenses and would love something like the 17-55 f2.8 but in a much smaller form factor like the kit lens. Something like the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 would also be nice but unfortunately that one doesn't come with a motor. It shouldnt be bigger than the 67mm filter size. Hopefully Sigma, Tokina or Tamron will come up with one real soon. The key thing is to maintain a reasonable size and weight. I believe this can and should be done. |

do you think a d40 user will go and get something like 300mm f2.8 or 800mm f5.6? edit: just to add, a d40 and maybe even at 17-55 may be light and compact, but definitely not compact nor light anymore with a 300mm f2.8 Last edited by ExplorerZ; 1st March 2007 at 10:20 AM. |

But some funny joker will try to mount one just for kicks. BTW, if somebody comes out with something like the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 but with a built-in motor I would be very tempted to get one. |
