Default MecaBlitz 70 MZ-5 vs Nikon SB-11 Handle Mount TTL Speedlight

Planning to use with my D100 (Possibly D2 in future)
Is the SB-11 compatible with D100?

    *Metz
    Expensive - $900+
    GN - 70

    *Nikon
    Cheaper - $600+??
    GN - 118
Slow??? Recharging time - 8 sec (Using Battery Pack SD-8 will help? How fast?)
Uses 8 1.5V AA-type alkaline or NiCd.. (means my NiMH 1.2V cannot be used ???)

The guide number for the Metz is in meters while the Nikon is in feet. Quite a considerable difference to consider.
