The gap between the mrt track and platform is there for a reason i guess.
For people who accidentally fell down, they can hide there but this time people misuse it.

yeah. if someone really wants to die, nothing can stop them. if the next MRT sucide case involves someone jumping through the glass doors(underground MRT) and onto the track, are we going to complain and say that the glass used should be bullet-proof so that people cannot jump through them?

Firstly, i doubt one can break the MRT glass panels as you said for the underground mrt.
Know how thick is the mrt glass panels?

Secondly, it might take 2 or 3 tries to break the glass panels, by then crowds around the person would sound the alarm or some might even stop the person from doing it.

Lastly, it is true that if someone wanna die, nothing can stop them
But for the MRT cases, i think authorities can do preventive measures.

You can't simply brush it aside the problems by saying "they wanna die, what can we do?"
Thats not going to solve the problem.

Another point is, what if someone wanna push another fellow to the tracks?
Didn't the last few months, a young chap is caught for pushing his g.f to the MRT tracks?
    Attempt murder.

If population increased to 6.5 million, there will be more "suicide accidents".

SMRT should think of feasible solutions to it and not wait for accidents to escalate and think for solutions. By then will be too late.

Probably MRT trains can slow down to 10km/hr when approaching train stations.
The train driver can do emergency stop if one really jump to tracks.

Just like how cars had to slow down when approaching zebra crossings.

actually, what ever solutions SMRT comes out with, it will be 100% useless. why? because the root of the problem doesn't lie within them. hdb can install metal grills to prevent sucide jumpers, lta can erect tall fences to prevent suciders from rushing into the traffic, but ultimately, if the economy is still as bad as it is today, if people are still poor, if people are still losing the competition to other countries...................

regarding attempted murder, i think it is too insignificant to be a strong reason for having barriers. so far, there are just too little of such cases in singapore mrt's history. people bring it up because it conincidentally happened among the midst of the sucide events. i seen more of maids falling over walls in hdb than that.

Economy doing bad, the widening gap of rich and poor.
You have to ask the government.
They are the ones who make major decisons that affects the majority.

Hmmm...too little for such cases? but you can't deny there are getting more such cases.
A train delay for hours affect the majority and if happens during peak hours, you get more problems in diverting traffic, economic loss.

Like i said, if wait for problems to escalate, you gonna face a bigger problem later.

If barriers are not feasible and too costly to build, why not slowing down the speed?

Let's wait and see how SMRT reply.

    the stats are evenly spread,
    north-4
    east-3
    west-3
