  1. #1

Question Why is the MTF chart of Canon and Nikon so different?

What are the determinants of MTF chart?

The two reviews showed 300+ difference in the numbers. And the difference is
    consistant in other lense.

simply because the 350D used has a 8mp sensor and the D200 used has a 10mp sensor

sometimes I wonder if we should even bother to read the MTF chart like some diligent students. I am suspicious of the accuracy of the posted MTF results.

Take it with a pinch of salt. Real hands on experience still the most impt i guess. Last time i thought I could just buy lenses based on MTF charts. Then I realised color reproduction, bokeh, contrast etc cant simply be represented with MTF charts.

I use it as a reference only.
With the same lens, I can find the optimal aperture to use and what aperture
    to avoid.

Quality control of each lens is different. MTF graphs do not really serve as a reliable reference on gauging a lens' sharpness. You might get a bad copy, or an even better one than the lens tested.

true, i had such experience with 50F/1.8. That's the worst copy I have ever saw.
Good copies can be very nice.

Hahaa.. the D200 has 20% more megapixels than the 350D, so being able to get 300+ more lines count very reasonable right..?
