shooting IR with d70s

perhaps this sounds silly but since d70s is listed as ir capable in the list. why is there a need to add a ir filter in front of the ccd ? or can i just get a hoya r72 filter and start shooting?

You do not need to add a ir filter in front of the ccd.

Just fit the r72 over the lens, set your Custom White Balance (CWB) with the filter on. Then you can start shooting IR with your D70s.

Custom cut IR filters are put in front of the ccd replacing the AA filter to modify the camera to shoot IR ONLY.
