Where did you hear that? I doubt stonngly that he bought gear already. He did pay $290 for the course though. Maybe this is what you are refering to?
I must thank my instructor for making me pay so much, I can't bear to give up scuba diving until today
I remember someone mentioned sometime ago that diving is as safe or as dangerous as what you want it to be. I think there is a lot of truth in this statement.
Think about it, whenever anyone wants to take up a open water qualification course, what is the first question he/she ask? Most of the time is "How much is the course har?". Maybe its because he/she is new to the sport and ofcourse naturally cost come up as the immediate question.
On the issue of cost of equipment, just ask yourself how much does your life cost considering that you have to depend TOTALLY on the equipment to survive underwater...
sounds like a big group diving...
personally, ive dived at hantu a few times and done my initial training there too. i was lucky that when i did some re-training i was the only one that day so it was 1-1 with my dive instructior.
the visibility is really really bad and the currents can be quite strong. personally, i wouldnt want to take more than 1-2 people down if i myself was an instructor cos its really easy to lose someone down there.
just have to back off a couple of feet and u cant be seen.
