Default Macbook Pro - Worth The Extra $900?

As the title suggests. is the Macbook Pro worth all that extra money?

Im looking at the top range Macbook or the lowest Macbook Pro.

The laptop will mainly be used for general work, maybe some on the go editing, no gaming, music will be played lots and some movies. The Macbook Pro is definitely better, but is it nearly $1000 better?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, I have no experience with Apple laptops, hence this thread. I do own an Imac though, so im not totally clueless Mac wise.

    Cheers Guys!

it depends on the worth ($ value) of your "general work" and "some on the go editing"

Enough to recoup the money, but if the difference isn't substantial id rather have the money I think.

You might want to buy the plain macbook and fill it up with ram. Should be sufficiently speedy enough for your purposes. Though the pro version looks and feels more desirable, and substantial, i should think that the macbook is enough...

Of course, if your graphic usage is intense, then you would prolly need the dedicated graphics card which the pro version provides...

you forgot the option to upgrade your ram to 3GB
the ability to drive a 30" Apple cinema and other video connections
    the ambient light sensor keyboard
    the extra Firewire 800 port
    the extra ExpressCard/34 slot

if you don't need these then go for the black MacBook

You'll find the 15" worthwhile for long term. Having a dedicated gfx is a big plus IMO. Definitely worth it.

Also, in my opinion only, the build quality on my MBP is better than that of a MB.

No video editing, photo editing is about as tedious as it gets for me!

Ignore the fact the Pro has a max 3Gb ram capability, buying the 2Gb ram module is gona cost you both arms and legs.
In your case, the very first question you gota ask yourself is ..... are you a careless person. If you tend to bump into doors & what nots, you'd be better off with the non pro since its encased in plastic (of sort). At the most, you get scratches on it. The Pro is encased in aluminium and you don't want to see what happens when you bump it once too often.

Of course having a bigger screen, firewire800 & backlit keyboard plus dedicated ram for video amongst others is well worth the extra $1,000, you can still work magic with the non Pro

Yes, after using both (not mine) for editing... i think the matt screen is better. lesser reflection and alot more sharper. but to layman, i think the glossy screen is more appealing... the matt screen makes the picture look flat.

Ok, so I guess, for accuracy, the matt screen is better, but for everyday clients, glossy screen will impress.

Tough choice, but since very little editing will be done, glossy probably suits me better.

The aluminum shell sounds scary, im usually quite careful, so should be fine, shall sleep on it and see, the macbook will probably do just fine, but the macbook pro and its dedicated graphics sure is tempting.

    Cheers guys

applecare is cheaper for macbook compare to the pro... to me that's the most important base on your requirement and needs. I bet you have better and faster machine to do intensive editing and such. macbook for you. heheee....

i think it is good to over-buy than underbuy.

if u buy MB, if one day u wanna something MB dun hve, u will be stuck as i think notebook upgrade options are preetty limited...
