try using a old uncoated filter and shoot against very bright light or if you can find a Hoya Pulsator (flare-like)

without filter = minimal flare... using pooooor quality filter = high chances of getting flare.

Why not remove the filter, shoot without any filter (and hood) and shoot? You can shoot with the light source in the corner of your frame. Remember not to stare at the light source during composition.
Or you can add flare in CS during PP?

Well, usually so long as you don't go overboard, the flare doesn't look too fake. =D

depends largely on how you frame it... flare and glare is just a line apart
