Default Flash contact masking

Hi, I am currently using the following:

1. D80
2. Sunpak B3600D, flash

The flash and D80 doesn't 'talk'. The cam doesn't fire the flash. I tried in all the modes on the cam and the flash in auto mode.

I was told that I should masked the pins of the flash (which comes with 4 pins) leaving only the centre pin in contact with the cam.

My question now is not to mask the pins har? Scotch tape?

TIA!

Won't the pin pierce thru? I am just worried about that. Will try anyway. Thanks!

the tape is to be stick on the camera..not the flash..needs alot of patience..cut the tapes into small circualr dots to mask the contacts on the camera body..
